Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has reached out to the World Bank to seek aid for upgrading infrastructure and capacity building in the state. Recognizing the World Bank as a valuable source of knowledge for developing countries, he emphasised that their partnership would significantly enhance the standard of living for the people of Maharashtra, a state boasting a highly skilled workforce and modern infrastructure facilities.
In collaboration with the World Bank, the government aims to focus on various critical areas, including green technology, disaster management, health services, and port infrastructure facilities, as reported by PTI.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also present at the World Bank meeting, outlined the government’s ambitious plan to make Maharashtra drought-free by linking rivers. The proposal involves diverting water from rivers flowing Westward to Godavari Valley and linking rivers in Vidarbha to combat drought.
The Shinde government’s agenda also encompasses seeking assistance for Mumbai’s traffic management, green energy initiatives, enhancing services at the district level, and fostering economic development across the state.
On a separate occasion, the Chief Minister participated in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Dharmveer Anand Dighe Cancer Hospital in Thane. Expressing his gratitude, Shinde acknowledged that the hospital’s name, honoring his mentor and Shiv Sena icon Anand Dighe, was a great privilege. The hospital, set to be established in Thane Municipal Corporation’s town center premises in Rustamji Home Complex, Balkum, aims to provide a new lease of life to cancer patients.
For the construction of this hospital, a built-up area of 24,000 square meters and an adjoining large plot of 12,000 square meters have been allocated to Jito Educational and Medical Trust and Tata Memorial Hospital.
The proactive approach of the Maharashtra government in seeking assistance from the World Bank and other initiatives reflects their commitment to driving growth and improving the lives of citizens in the state. As they forge ahead with their ambitious plans, Maharashtra stands poised for a promising future marked by enhanced infrastructure, better services, and overall progress.
