Wartsila Info Mgmnt Competence Centre in India
Wartsila has established its Information Management Competence Centre in India which marks a new chapter in the company as a truly global organization. The Competence Centre, located in Kesar Solitaire, Navi Mumbai will be headed by D Govindrao, Associate Vice President.
Wartsila Information Management leads the information and communication technology (ICT) activities in Wartsila. It supports and enables the Group’s strategic goals and management through efficient and unbroken operations and offer fit for purpose solutions to Wartsila and its customers on ICT area.
Wartsila Information Management has a strategic goal of providing all ICT solutions and services to enable Wartsila’s and its customers’ success.
As a part of this strategic goal, the Competence Centre has been established in India. India was chosen based on the long IT sourcing tradition, good language skills, adaptive IT work culture and large and affordable resource pool.
Speaking on the occasion, Rakesh Sarin, Managing Director of Wartsila India Ltd said, "Wartsila IM works as a customer centric organization and enables and supports the company to provide lifecycle power solutions to enhance the business of our customers whilst creating better technologies that benefit both the customers and the environment."

Jukka Ponsi, General Manager Information Management, Wartsila Corporation stated, “To enable flexible and efficient delivery of mature IM operations, Wartsila had decided to establish two competence centers –in India (early 2011) and in China (2008). The Competence Centre will mainly deliver general application development, master data management and operational purchasing services. The Centre in India is a very vital and important part of the global IM in Wartsila.
The new IM seeks alignment with the business strategies in portfolios, competencies and locations as well as sustainable costs reduction through better use of existing assets, lower supplier costs, clear responsibilities, dedicated competence centers and more accurate delivery.
The services provided globally from Competence Centre India at this stage will include the development and level 2/3 support of all non-engineering applications, Master data management, ICT equipment operative purchasing, Authorizations management and Infrastructure services including servers, databases and networks. The Competence Centre caters to more than 17000 users spread across more than 70 countries.
