Siemens India to supply electrical equipment

Siemens India will supply complete turnkey electrical equipment to Polysius AG, a company belonging to ThyssenKrupp Technologies.

The order was bagged by the industry solutions division of Siemens for Ohorongo Cement in Otavi, Namibia.

Polysius is the EPC contractor constructing the cement plant. Ohorongo Cement will be set up as a subsidiary of the German company Schwenk Zement KG.

Expected to be operational by December 2010, this will be the first cement works to be built in Namibia.

Siemens will engineer and supply the entire plant electrics that includes 132 kV outdoor GIS (gas-insulated switchgear) switchyard, power and distribution transformers, 11 kV vacuum circuit breaker panels, PCCs (power control centres) and intelligent MCCs (motor control centres).

The order also includes medium and low-voltage motors, VVVF drives (variable voltage, variable frequency), cables, lighting as well as earthing system, power factor correction systems, control automation and field instrumentation.
