Scomi Group to focus on India, other emerging mkts
Malaysian giant Scomi Group has recently formed Scomi International Pte Ltd to pursue growth opportunities in emerging markets of Brazil, China, India, the Gulf States and Indonesia. Kanesan Veluppillai has been appointed as the president of the new division.
Scomi International will have the resources and reach to accelerate Scomi’s continued growth as a world-leading manufacturer of innovative transportation solutions especially in Monorail systems. Besides that, Scomi International will also be establishing commercial alliances and representations of leading products and technologies from emerging markets for worldwide distribution.
"Scomi International will leverage on Scomi’s global presence in 68 locations across 33 countries to drive the Group’s globalization efforts to the next phase. Demand for our expertise and technology, such as monorail systems and other rail based turnkey solutions will increase in line with the rapid urbanization of these regions and the rise in the standard of living of local communities,” said Scomi Group’s CEO, Shah Hakim Zain.
The appointment of Kanesan Veluppillai as President of Scomi International is effective immediately. In his new role, Kanesan will be leading the Group’s global marketing efforts by adapting global products to fit local market requirements for example with its monorail technology SUTRA.
In his previous position in Scomi as Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Kanesan had successfully led the Group’s global marketing efforts in India where Scomi was awarded the country’s first monorail project in Mumbai. In addition to India, he has also been actively involved in developing the business in other core markets such as Brazil and the Gulf States.
