RML to set up 1 mln tonne cement plant

Iron ore mining firm and flagship of the SR Rungta group, Rungta Mines (RML), has announced plans to set up a one million tonne cement plant in Orissa with an investment of approximately Rs600 crore. The company is currently negotiating with the state government for allocation of limestone reserves to execute the project.
In a related development the company is setting up two steel plants in Orissa and Jharkhand with a capacity of 2 MTPA and 0.5 MTPA respectively. Both locations will also have a 40 Mw captive power plant. According to a top company official, production of sponge iron has commenced at both locations and will be used to make long steel products. Both plants are expected to become fully operational over the next 3-4 years.
