RICS India international conference on Urban Infra


RICS India is organizing a conference on ‘Planning and Delivering Urban Infrastructure in Indian Cities’. The conference is supported by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and the EuroIndia Centre and will be held on 10-11 August, 2011 at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi.
Shri Kamal Nath, Honourable Minister for Urban Development, Government of India, will inaugurate this two-day conference, which will provide a platform to share knowledge and learning’s from similar exercises that other global cities have already undergone or planned for sustainable growth. The conference being organised under the ‘RICS Vision for Cities’ programme is positioned as an initiative that will allow stakeholders from across the real estate and infrastructure ecosystem to come together to deliberate on issues concerning urban planning and infrastructure. In light of what is happening globally, the conference will look at exploring and understanding the kind of urban growth being anticipated in India and what areas, satellite cities and urban corridors will accommodate the burgeoning urban population of the country in the coming years.
Considering ‘cities’ are the engines of national growth and the decisions and projects of today will shape the cities of the future – the aim of the conference will be to deliberate and discuss a clear vision for future Indian cities; planning of new cities in urban corridors; regenerating existing areas in cities, building capacity of built environment skills; the role of technology in efficient planning and delivery of sustainable infrastructure.
These and several other aspects of infrastructure planning, policy and investment will also be discussed through a combination of group discussions, debates, case studies and presentations by a unique panel of international experts; key stakeholders including the central and state governments; as well as representatives from urban local bodies and industry leaders – who will be present at this forum to help find new and more creative delivery and investment models and partnerships in planning and development for new and existing cities in the context of developing urban India.

Specifically, in relation to the experience and lessons of Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) in infrastructure RICS will release a report titled ‘The future of private finance initiative and public private partnership’, which presents a timely and credible evidence base to inform and guide key stakeholders on the challenges and opportunities afforded by PPPs. University of Ulster is the International Knowledge Partner for this conference, while Salmon Leap is an Institution Partner and Institute of Competitiveness the Research Partners.
