Railways carry 366.70 MT freight in April-August

Indian Railways have carried 366.70 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April-August 2010. The freight carried shows an increase of 8.37 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 358.33 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 2.34%.

During the month of August 2010, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 74.20 million tonnes. There is an increase of 0.88 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 73.32 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 1.20%.
Also, the total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April – 31st August 2010 were Rs37015.28 crore compared to Rs34289.58 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 7.95%.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs23129.08 crore during 1st April – 31st August, 2009 to Rs. 24768.16 crore during 1st April – 31st August 2010, an increase of 7.09 per cent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during first five months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs10592.53 crore compared to Rs 9715.78 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.02%.
