Railway revenue earnings up by 11.24%

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during the period 11th November – 20th Novemberer 2009 were Rs. 2358.81 crore compared to Rs. 2120.38 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.24 per cent.
The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 1388.93 crore during 11th November – 20th November 2008 to Rs. 1619.68 crore during 11th Nnovember – 20th November 2009, showing an increase of 16.61 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during the period 11th to 20th November 2009 were Rs. 653.86 crore compared to Rs. 652.53 crore during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 0.20 per cent. The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs. 62.42 crore during this period compared to Rs. 54.37 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 14.81 per cent.
The total approximate number of passengers booked during the period 11th to 20th November 2009 were 198.65 million compared to 213.58 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 6.99 per cent. In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during 11–20 November 2009 were 104.08 million and 94.57 million compared to 118.64 million and 94.94 million during the same period last year, registering a decrease of 12.27 per cent and 0.39 per cent respectively.
