Kanpur Central Metro section begins construction phase

The process started with the lowering of rails

Track construction has commenced on the Metro’s Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section in India. The initial stages involve the construction of the ‘up-line’ in the 1,250-meter stretch between Nayaganj and Kanpur Central station. The welding and laying of tracks along this ‘up-line’ tunnel, also approximating 1,250-meters, have been successfully completed.

Work on the track slab casting in an underground tunnel near the under-construction Kanpur Central metro station has begun. The process started with the lowering of rails, which were then welded. Post casting, additional derailment guards will be installed along with the preparation for the installation of the third rail. The underground metro track, like the elevated track, is ballast-less and includes a mass-spring system to reduce vibrations.

Construction on the ‘downline’ track from the ramp area at Mcroberganj to Nayaganj station is approximately 80% complete, according to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation. Additionally, the ‘Azad’ Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was recently launched for tunnel construction from the ramp area near Swadeshi Cotton Mill to Kanpur Central Station. Work is progressing steadily on both projects.
