Hindalco and Texmaco collaborate to manufacture aluminium rail coaches

The Aditya Birla Group company will provide profiles, sheets and plates of its aluminium alloys

Hindalco Industries and Texmaco Rail & Engineering have forged a strategic alliance to develop and manufacture aluminium rail wagons and coaches for the Indian Railways.

The project will entail an investment of around Rs 200 crore. The companies intend to explore manufacturing opportunities under ‘Mission 3000 MT’ launched by the Indian Railways, with the objective of meeting 3,000 tonne of freight requirement by the year 2027.

The Aditya Birla Group company will provide profiles, sheets and plates of its aluminium alloys, as well as fabrication and welding expertise, while Texmaco will offer technical expertise and would be responsible for establishing the factory and production line, along with providing skilled workers. The companies plan to develop an indigenous facility which will be used for manufacturing high-quality aluminium wagons, coaches, and large containers.

The collaboration will enable enhanced value proposition for the freight industry, and for passenger mobility, as Hindalco’s in-house aluminium freight rake boasts higher payload and significant CO2 reduction.
