Government Children’s Home land cleared for Kochi Metro construction

KMRL has agreed to retain the gate of the facility

The Women and Child Development (WCD) department has issued an order granting in-principle approval for the handing over the land of Government Children’s Home at Kakkanad for the construction works of Kochi Metro’s Phase-II line.

The in-principle approval is being granted on the condition that KMRL would acquire only 13.92 cents of land owned by the Children’s Home. Further, KMRL has agreed to retain the gate of the facility and to construct a concrete wall separating the proposed Metro station and the Children’s Home.

The issue raised over the land acquisition, was addressed at a meeting held by the Principal Secretary (Revenue Department). The Children’s Home demanded that preliminary works such as construction of compound wall, relocation of existing underground water tanks, shifting of security cabin and gates need to be completed prior to the Metro construction works.
