Assam’s record-breaking road bridge set for Aug 28 launch

The bridge is being constructed on a 2.63 km-long stretch

The longest road bridge in Assam, extending from Kamakhya Gate to Maligaon in west Guwahati, will be inaugurated on 28 August, 2023. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement at a government event.

The bridge is being constructed on a 2.63 km-long stretch at a project cost of Rs 420.75 crore, wherein physical progress of the bridge was at 93 percent overall till 01 August, 2023. The foundation and sub-structure of the main bridge and its Pandu arm have been completed, while in the superstructure, only two of the 124 deck slabs are yet to be completed, as also a deck slab remains incomplete in the Pandu arm.

In the approaches, a reinforced earth wall is 95 percent complete at the Maligaon end, 80 percent at the Kamakhya end and 95 percent at the Pandu end respectively. A total of 1,020 mtrs. of the 1,600-mtrs. drain have been completed. However, the work on service lane and parking are yet to be completed.

The deadline to complete the flyover is 23 October, 2023 but from 28 August, 2023 itself, vehicular movement will start on it. Once completed, it will ease traffic congestion in west Guwahati.
