Airports Authority of India, Halwara airport, Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority, GLADA, Aitiana, Soil testing, Environment impact assessment, Airport terminals building, PWD, Face recognition system

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is ready with a plan for development of the Halwara Airport. The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) has initiated the process to take possession of land for the airport.

The construction work will kick off soon once the land acquisition is completed. The possession of land has started at Aitiana. AAI has already awarded the work for soil testing and environment impact assessment report to the agencies concerned.

Once the state government transfers the land to AAI, they will submit a file prepared by Executive Director planning before the AAI board for approval after which it will invite tenders for construction of the airport terminals building. The construction of the boundary wall of the airport will be done by the state PWD department.

AAI intends to begin work on building three terminals -- international, domestic and cargo side by side with the construction of the boundary wall. Whereas the boundary wall construction will require around Rs three crore, the whole complex will involve the expenditure of Rs 300 to Rs 500 crore.

The airport terminal complex will have state-of-the-art infrastructure, including common user interface terminal system, inland baggage, face recognition system for walk-through identification facility for passengers, etc.

The land acquisition agency will also work on widening of road from Main road to Aitiana village site, besides diversion from Air Force station as the road in the beginning is narrow.
