The Centre may allow highway construction work from 15 April 2020 onwards in a move to kick start economic activity in the country.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has asked officials to explore ways to begin construction work on big highway projects where labourers are still available on site.

Work on Dwarka Expressway may likely resume immediately if permission for resuming construction is accorded. However, certain restrictions will be imposed.

Around 50-60% labourers or construction workers are available at large project sites in the country.

Moreover, the minister has also asked officials to fast track the award of projects to kick start economic activity.

Also, the Union Minister has asked to award new work in Q1/FY21 so that the construction activity gains momentum. Large projects will be awarded in the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) mode.

The government will also look at easing liquidity constraints of construction companies
