Pune’s High Capacity Mass Transit Route project held back

The city has changed a lot in three decades

Pune Municipal Corporation, High Capacity Mass Transit Route

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is likely to scratch the High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR) project and redesign it from scratch.

The high rates quoted in tenders and opposition from locals and activists were the main reasons. PMC’s general body had approved the project in September 2019. The standing committee had given the go-ahead to appoint a consultant for Rs 1.93 crore in November 2019. The project was designed nearly 30 years ago.

The city has changed a lot in these three decades. Hence, the project will be reconsidered with a new approach. PMC is working on a policy decision about the future of HCMTR.

Factors such as redesigning the project and new alignment are to be finalised. The work on a detailed project report will start after the policy is finalised.
