Power Ministry achieves 21221 MW capacity addition
With the full load commissioning of Paras-Unit II, the Indian Power Ministry said it has achieved 21221 MW capacity addition in the 11th Five Year Plan. Announcing this in Solapur, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said that about 62,000 MW capacity addition would certainly be achieved out of the 78,700 MW target envisaged for the 11th Plan.
It had achieved capacity addition of 21220 MW in the 10th Five Year Plan.
As per Central Electricity Authority (CEA) assessment, against planned capacity addition of 78,700 MW for the 11th Plan, a total capacity of 62,374 MW is likely to be achieved with a high level of certainty. In addition, a capacity of 12590 MW may materialize on best effort basis during the 11th Plan, it estimated.
The Power Ministry said that it has been emphasising on completion of works in respect of the units falling under the latter category in view of growing requirement of electricity. “Strict monitoring of critical projects, facilitation in land acquisition, water allocation, and placement of order for balance of plant equipment has also been emphasized,” it said in a press release.
