Please elaborate on LHT’s offerings in India.
Known for offering a truly global, multi-brand, multi-category portfolio, at Lixil, we believe in transforming end-to-end home solutions experience to make it easy, enjoyable and of true value to our consumers. Under Lixil Housing Technology (LHT), we offer high quality ‘Japanese design pre-engineered’ aluminum sash windows & door systems that are known for their performance under the harshest weather conditions.

In Jan 2019, Lixil formed strategic partnership with AluK — a global leader in design and engineering of European style aluminum windows & doors, under the brand name TOSTEM + AluK. The partnership aims to ensure that the discerning Indian customers get the best in design, quality and innovative technology, combining European design with Japanese manufacturing.

Under LHT, Lixil offers a comprehensive range of solutions which are a fine blend of contemporary designs, aesthetics, performance and security needed for large projects as well as private homes. For low to mid-segments, the brand will offer products that are lean and well-engineered to be cost effective. For the premium segment, our approach is to offer more robust, heavy duty products which can offer additional functionality like ‘lift & shift’ to suit double glazing requirements. We are hopeful that the ‘Pre-engineered’ solutions will prove to be the best solution for mid-housing segments.

What are Lixil’s Housing Technology (BU) plans for the Indian market? What are the business priorities this year?
Our primary aim is to create a business that is highly consumer-centric. With TOSTEM, we aim to bring best in class product design and intelligent functionality to deliver additional comfort, convenience and end-to-end housing solutions to Indian consumers.

Our plan is to be able to offer a comprehensive range of solutions across various segments in India. It is essential for us to understand the evolving needs of the Indian consumers and how LIXIL products will add value to their lifestyle. Currently, all products are fully built and glazed at a modern 150,000 sft facility at Manesar and distributed through a strong network of channel partners.

Kindly share your perspective and insights on the growth trajectory of LHT in the last 2 years. Additionally, tell us about opportunities and challenges in India market.

Given the strong economic, social and demographic parameters and Lixil’s diverse business operations, India continues to be one of the most promising markets for us. Growing disposable incomes, evolving real estate requirements and adoption of innovative products in housing segment are key demand drivers and will continue to create opportunities for players like us.

At TOSTEM, we are committed to understanding local climates and environments, and pursuing technological innovations to provide customers with solutions that suit the every region.

In the recent times, housing and real estate sectors have been amongst the worst-hit sectors due to the COVID-19 and lockdown. The pandemic has impacted every industry in ways we could have never been prepared for. The construction industry currently suffers from manpower shortage, material supplies, Cash flows and an increase in prices – the aftermath of the pandemic. At the same time, Buyers are cautious leading to a temporary pause in demand. Despite the current situation, in the short-run, the positive side is that the industry has realized the need for timely completion of on-going construction work. For the mid to long term; with the gradual opening of the market and the government's impetus on housing and infrastructure, we are positive about our growth in the India market.

What are Lixil’s manufacturing strengths?
TOSTEM is one of the earliest companies in the world to start manufacture of windows in large volumes using industrial processes. Our strength lies in our differentiated approach to window designs and pre-engineered solutions.

TOSTEM windows are completely manufactured in-house - starting with product design to casting, extrusion, surface treatment, coating and window fabrication. These Windows come with patented TEXGUARD system - a Surface color treatment with advanced Japanese technology. TEXGUARD delivers a non-gloss and clearer finish, combining anodic and organic coatings. They provide an effective surface treatment that applies synthetic resin paint which is then banked over an anodic oxide coating; resulting in a long lasting, pleasing appearance.

With the difficulties faced by developers in completion of large projects, TOSTEM windows significantly reduces the time on site continuing to deliver the last-mile quality.

TOSTEM is known for its Pre-Engineered system. What differentiates TOSTEM from its competition in the market?
TOSTEM’s uncompromising emphasis on quality, which is synonymous with Japanese-borne engineering, pushes us to continuously perfect our window system. All our products are developed, designed, manufactured and assembled under integrated production process and stringent quality control. Extrusion dies, aluminium bullet, extrusion profiles, coating, pre-fabrication, and hardware assembly process are all done in TOSTEM manufacturing facilities. The idea behind the technology was to reduce manpower while delivery the same quality window-system everytime, everywhere.

Drawing on our strong Japanese heritage, expertise in technology of over the last 50 years, we strive to design products that are not only functional but create every-day comfort at home. We believe in innovations that solve day to day problems with top notch quality and comfort. The fact that we will be manufacturing the finished window and not follow fabricator route will ensure consistency and reliability of quality far ahead of the existing industry standards.
