IIA Natcon 2020 to go virtual
To be held on July 11 and 12
The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Natcon 2020: Transcend is all set to take place on July 11 and 12. In the light of the current pandemic, the IIA is hosting this as an online event using a multifaceted platform. The national convention will follow the theme of Transcend, which will focus on self-reliance and resilience in architecture with an inclusive approach to address equitable built environment for all sections of the society.
The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) is the national body of architects with more than 25,000 active members. It plays a major role in promoting the profession of architects by organising and uniting the architects of India to promote aesthetic, scientific and practical efficiency of the profession both in practice and education.
This year the sessions are constituted to surpass the boundaries of social inequality, inadequate habitat for the needy. Natcon will feature expert talks by internationally renowned architects and panel discussion on the range of topics that are related to the profession of the society.
Around 3000 architects from across the country are expected to participate.
The IIA Natcon is the only national level convention for architects organised by its own fraternity.
Prominent speakers include Rahul Mehrotra, founder principal of architecture firm RMA Architects of Mumbai + Boston, and Professor of urban design and planning and chair of the department of urban planning and design at Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Marion Weiss, co-founder of WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism and the Graham Chair Professor of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania; Sonam Wangchuk, an Indian engineer, innovator and education reformist and founding-director of the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh; Moshe Safdie CC FAIA FRAIC, an Israeli-Canadian architect, urban designer, educator, theorist, and author; and Michael Manfredi, cofounder of WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism and a senior design critic at Harvard University.
