No money shortage, says Hiranandani

Industry leader Niranjan Hiranandani has remarked that there is no shortage of money for developmental projects in India. “Today, there are various ways of raising funds.

The only problem is lack of leadership,” he stated. Hiranandani gave the example of how MSRDC was created to raise funds for the construction of flyovers and the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Maharashtra.

“I think it is time that we as professionals and as an industry must point out to the government and the polity that you cannot continue the tomfoolery of misleading people by saying development projects cannot be taken up for lack of funds,” said Hiranandani, MD & co-founder of the Hiranandani Group of Companies.

“They must admit that they do not have the initiative and the leadership to provide the change, to provide the much needed infrastructure in time and to provide affordable housing,” he added. Hiranandani – in what could be the first from his fraternity – admitted that the industry was equally at fault.

Giving examples of the revolutions in industries like food, IT, aviation and telecom, Hiranandani said that the construction industry must emulate the achievements of these sectors.

Hiranandani was addressing a gathering of architects and design professionals at the Architect & Interiors India Green Turf event by Carrier Air Conditioning (India) and Toshiba Air Conditioning (India).
