NHAI to accelerate land acquistions

The Minister for Road Transport & Highways Kamal Nath has asked the Project Directors of NHAI to expedite land acquisitions by following it up rigorously with State Governments. Since land acquisition is prime premise of construction of highways, he emphasized the need to accelerate the process and to orchestrate it with the bidding plan.
The Minister’s directions came during a review meeting on the progress of construction and land acquisition matters with the Project Directors of Project Implementation Units (PIUs) of various states on Friday at NHAI, New Delhi. The Minister appreciated the work done by the Project Directors in three states of Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan in land acquisition matters.
Mr Nath pointed out that the pace of construction in the last two months was slow due to the rainy season, and land acquisition activities should have been taken up during the period. During the review meeting, the Minister was informed that the land acquisition has not progressed due to lukewarm response of some of the state governments.
Therefore, he directed that the Project Directors should be in touch with the state government officials to expedite the matter. He further emphasized that he would take up land acquisition issues at the political platform and would also talk to the various state governments to resolve the problematic issues.
