MCHI-Mah govt to facilitate affordable housing
Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI), the umbrella body of developers, has decided to join hands with Maharashtra government to facilitate five lakh affordable home in Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The industry body has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government on 28th April.
MCHI will partner with the government to examine and identify measures to strengthen the housing industry’s role in the socio-economic development. It will also formulate measures that will aid in the development of affordable homes and ensure their availability across the Mumbai and MMR region.
Pravin Doshi, President, MCHI said, “It is an historic occasion on how this housing association can be responsive to the dreams and aspirations of common citizens of owning a house in Mumbai. With the participation of over 500 developer members of MCHI and wholehearted support from all the housing agencies and authorities, we would be able to facilitate the creation of five lakh homes in next five years.”
MCHI says it is aiming to lend its support to the government to address the housing shortage through the establishment of a planning committee which will offer solutions and help to formulate a concrete policy that will ensure the establishment of affordable housing communities.
According to some estimates, Mumbai has an immediate demand of about 1.4 million homes, of which, 80% of the demand is expected to emanate from the Rs3-5 lakh income group.
