L&T unveils largest testing facility

Larsen & Toubro has established the country’s largest transmission line research and testing centre at Kanchipuram near Chennai. Inaugurated by Power Grid Corporation of India CMD, S K Chaturvedi, the facility is designed to test transmission line towers of various sizes and capacities.
The testing facility, set up at a cost of Rs25 crore on 20 acres, is equipped with steel loading structures for three directional load applications and an expansive concrete test pad with a unique foundation arrangement to support any shape of test tower base upto 35x35m.
The modern facility includes advanced human machine interface (HMI) which will help in ensuring reliability of transmission network by validating design through full scale photo testing of towers upto 1200 kv with 95 m height required for development of EHV networks.
