Long Lasting Wonder

High Pressure Laminate (HPL) are cost-effective and enhance the thermal performance of a building.

High Pressure Laminate or HPL is the direct descendent of the original plastic laminate. It is considered to be one of the most durable decorative surface materials and is available with special performance properties including chemical, fire and wear resistance. Special grades of HPL can be postformed around curved edges by application of heat and restraint.
They are highly durable exterior wall cladding products that are available in a diverse range of decors to create a contemporary, cost effective rainscreen façade. HPL panel manufacturers have a large range of colours and patterns to select from, and can offer either printed images or actual wood grains.
HPL is produced in sheets and fabricated to finished panel sizes. The designer has the ability to create varying degrees of patterns and panel shapes on the building – often using numerous colors to create intrigue and a creative design aesthetic. Off–fall of material is a design and fabrication consideration, so as to maximise the panel’s yield. Both concealed and exposed colour-matched rivet systems are available.
More often than not, they are designed to withstand the elements. The unique rain screen façade features a double hardened acrylic polyurethane resin, which creates a powerful weather protective coating. It is produced in laminate presses under high pressure, at high temperature.
Explaining the benefits that HPL offers, Dr Prashanth Reddy, MD, FunderMax India, says, “High Pressure Laminates when installed properly enhance the thermal performance of the building. At FunderMax we install our panels using rear ventilated principle which reduces the overall U factor of the system. It also acts as an effective rain barrier when designed with a gutter system for draining water away from the envelope.”

High-Pressure Laminate Panels façades are more than a design style; they provide function, energy efficiency and long lasting properties resulting in a variety of advantages. HPL panels are weather resistant and colour stable, solid and sturdy, and offer low maintenance as the dense HPL surface limits dirt accumulation.
Ideally exterior grade HPL should require least maintenance. “The anti-grafitti properties of Max Exterior panels from FunderMax make it ideal for external applications. The patented NT treatment given to the surface ensures that the panel doesn’t catch dust and grime. A good rain is enough to handle maintenance of the panel making your exterior water neutral,” adds Dr Reddy.
High-Pressure Laminate Panels from FunderMax are produced by saturating multiple layers on kraft paper (sourced domestically from FSC forests) with thermosetting resins, combined with decorative layers both top and bottom, pressed together under high temperature and pressure. The result is a homogenous flat panel that will not delaminate and will endure the test of time and climate. The aesthetic opportunities create a unique, appealing, and economic solution to the design and performance challenges of today.

FunderMax’s HPL exteriors are highly durable and eco-friendly.

Shankho Chowdhury, executive business head, decoratives, CenturyPly, says, “HPL is a man-made material applied to the top of a larger surface. It comes in a wide range of styles, making it a favourite with designers and architects who use it to visually enhance drab spaces.”
HPL has several advantages. Some of them are:
Versatility: HPL is an extremely versatile material which finds use in applications like vertical surfaces like doors and windows as well as horizontal ones like table-tops and countertops. Other applications include vanities, cabinets as well as floorings.
Durability: Manufactured under high pressures, this form of laminate is highly durable and is therefore useful for commercial places experiencing high traffic.
Variety: It can be selected in a number of different specifications in terms of looks, thicknesses, materials, colours, patterns and more.
Safety: High pressure laminate is resistant to fire which makes it an ideal choice for kitchen countertops. It is also flame retardant which endorses its use in the laboratories and other similar settings. For being safe, it offers great return for the investments.
Damage-free: It is resistant to chemicals and heat as well as to cigarette burns and abrasion. Going further, it is also not prone to wear and tear and impact. Most of the top brands offer moisture-resistant varieties as well. It means you can expect it to serve for many years.
Maintenance: It is also easy to clean and maintain as it doesn’t accumulate dirt and is not easily affected by different weather elements.
There are several other technological innovations done through a conscious and continuous research & development effort which are helping consumers in better living. “Like, Silver Nano technology which reduces the level of bacterial and fungal growth on the laminate surface and keeps interiors healthy and safe. We have uniform sanding for each laminate that are made with precision and the consistency come with state-of-the-art machines which are used for manufacturing HPL. CenturyLaminates procure papers made from plantation timber and have Greenguard & FSC certifications. These are also Fire Retardant grade 2 laminates. We have a wide variety of designs which pass through stringent quality tests and provide complete peace of mind to users,” adds Chowdhury.

In simple words, HPL exteriors are highly durable if one is planning to decorate the exteriors of one’s building—no matters if it’s commercial or residential. Companies in India provide HPL exteriors that are affordable in terms of budget and features the best quality in terms of durability as it comes with the seal of reliability and authenticity.
“Customers who prefer longevity and sustainability of their building façade, customers who prefer a modern outlook combined with eco-friendliness, and customers who value their design freedom are all people who prefer FunderMax’s HPL,” says Dr Reddy.
Other advantages of HPL are optimal light fastness, scratch resistant, solvent resistant, self-supporting exterior facade, impact resistance, easy to maintain, heat resistant, fire resistant, free from heavy metals, sustainable, Easy and rapid installation, increased sound proofing function (up to 15dB), decrease air conditioning costs from insulation façade cladding, and provide wall protection & heat insulation to buildings against atmospheric precipitation.
They bring compelling aesthetic and nearly limitless design possibilities with various colours, rhythms and depths to next-generation architecture.
