Leighton Welspun qualifies for NHAI’s RFAQ

Leighton Welspun Contractors (LWIN) has qualified with highest score announced in the recent results of annual RFAQ of NHAI, which positions them in the elite league of EPC companies qualifying them to bid for projects upto Rs12,873 crore.
Leighton Welspun Contractors having got the highest score in the year 2012, effectively means that they will be able to bid for projects upto Rs. 12873 crore.
There are only two companies (LWIN and L&T) who can bid for projects with a value of more than Rs10,000 crore. This is more relevant in light of future upcoming access controlled expressway projects as well as mega highway projects, for which the project cost is likely to be higher (more than Rs5000 crore). In all those projects, LWIN would be automatically eligible to participate in RFQ process.
RFAQ refers to the annual pre-qualification process of NHAI. This is aimed at evaluating the technical and financial capacity of applicants and deciding their eligibility of qualification for a specific estimated project cost as well as net-worth. The applicants pre-qualified at this RFAQ stage need not submit detailed application for project specific qualification stage. The applicants are qualified for one calendar year.
