Land delay hampers GMR power project

GMR Energy Ltd’s 1,200 MW power project in Chhattisgarh is likely to be delayed with the land acquisition for the project still to be completed, according to a company official. The Rs55 billion plant to be set up in Raipur district needs about 1,000 acres of land of which 30% is still to be acquired.
Elaborating further the official revealed that construction work for the prestigious project was expected to begin by September 2009, but with the land acquisition taking time, the project construction schedule is likely to be pushed up further. Sixty percent of the land earmarked for the project is owned by farmers while the government owns the rest.
