Lanco’s Udupi Unit wins Gold Shield
Lanco has said that its Udupi Thermal Power Plant Unit No. 1 (600 MW) has been selected by the Central Electricity Authority for “Gold Shield” Award for the year 2010-11 in the category of “Early Completion of Thermal Power Projects”.
This Award has been instituted by the Ministry of Power, the Government of India, under the Comprehensive Award Scheme for recognizing Meritorious Performance in the Power Sector. The Award was presented by the Hon’ble Minister of Power, Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, at a special award ceremony today at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The Udupi Power Corporation Limited has successfully implemented 2 x 600 MW Thermal Power Generating units in Udupi District of Karnataka State. The Project uses 100% imported coal as fuel and sea water for its cooling water requirements and has state of art technologies like FDG, RO, etc. The power from the project is supplied in the ratio 90%:10% to the State of Karnataka based on Long Term PPA with the State Discoms and Punjab respectively.
Commenting on receiving the accolade, L Madhusudhan Rao, Executive Chairman, said, “It has been a challenging task for the entire team to commission the project in the least possible time frame. A ‘concept to commissioning’ EPC execution model that addresses time, cost and quality in every project is the philosophy of Lanco and the award reinforces the capabilities of the execution team as well as project management team. It is our corporate philosophy to built plants environment friendly besides taking care of the local needs through CSR activities like Education, Health, Drinking Water, and Community Development."
