India’s largest dumpers commissioned

The largest Dumpers ever to be deployed at any site in India were commissioned this month by Gmmco Ltd, a CK Birla Group Company, creating history in the industry. Caterpillar’s 793D Dumpers, with a carrying capacity of 240T, were commissioned and handed over at the Gevra mines of M/s. South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). SECL, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, had earlier placed an order for 22 of these Dumpers on Gmmco and Caterpillar.
At a ceremony at the Gevra project at SECL, the Chairman of Coal India, Mr. Partha S Bhattacharyya inaugurated the first Caterpillar 793D Dumper. Directors of Coal India, Mr. N.C. Jha and Dr. A.K. Sarkar, and CMD of SECL, Mr. M.P. Dikshit also participated.
The machines were handed over to Coal India officials by Mr. H. Jayaram, ED & CEO of Gmmco Limited, Mr. Ed Melicor, Director of Caterpillar Commercial Private Limited, and Mr. Fernando C Almazan, Territory Mining Manager of Caterpillar Asia Pacific Division.
The Dumpers have been supplied along with a 12-year Maintenance And Repair Contract (MARC) which will be executed by Gmmco. The total contract for the 22 CAT 793D Dumpers along with the Maintenance Contract is valued at close to Rs.950 crores.
Caterpillar 793D dumpers are manufactured in USA and are of State-of-art technology which includes Integrated electronic control system for power train, Vital information system, excellent ergonomics for operation …all aimed at maximising reliability, availability and productivity. The machines also has a large number of safety features.
