Grundfos opens new plant in Chennai

Grundfos Pumps India, the 100% subsidiary of Danish company, has recently opened a new facility at Thoraipakkam, Chennai to expand its manufacturing capacity in India. Spread over 7000 sq meter, the new facility is equipped with sophisticated material handling machinery needed to handle pumps and components in the manufacture, assembly and storage operations.
Carlo Prola, Senior Vice President, Grundfos Group, said: “India is one of the most important overseas markets for the company in the Asia – Pacific region. The expansion of the Chennai based facility further strengthens our capabilities to adapt to the local market and signifies our commitment to long-term business operations in India.”
The new facility has a test bed capacity that is built to 300 Kw and the entire load is supported by back-up power, which will help in the testing of large pumps used for massive infrastructure projects.
Grundfos is working with Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to get a certification of Green Factory Building for its factories.
It has also acquired a 16-acre land near Sriperumbudur to construct an additional production facility. The construction work for this additional facility will start in next year.
“We plan to increase our footprint in India and expand our operations by setting up another facility near Sriperumbudur. Our vision is to be the best pump company in all the segments that we operate in,” said Ranganath NK, Managing Director, Grundfos-India.
