Govt releases grant for rural roads under PMGSY
The Ministry of Rural Development has released grant in aid for the construction of rural roads in Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa and Karnataka. As part payment for various phase under implementation, the Ministry has released Rs40 crore for Jharkhand; Rs310 crore for Bihar; Rs230 crore for Orissa and Rs95 crore for Karnataka.
The rural road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are being funded through special window created in NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development) under RIDF. The projects will be executed by Rural Roads Development Authority in the respective states.
Fully sponsored by Central government, PMGSY scheme is being executed to provide road connectivity in the rural areas of the country. PMGSY envisages connectivity to all habitations with a population of 500 persons and above in the rural areas; and about 250 persons and above in respect of the hilly states, tribal areas and desert areas through good and all weather roads.
