Faster construction of gas pipelines: Murli Deora

Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Murli Deora has said that it is necessary to expedite the construction of trunk pipelines to carry natural gas to new areas. During his meeting with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), Deora underlined that the Ministry and the Regulator should jointly endeavor to ensure that a programme is underataken in this direction.
The minister’s views are extremely important in the light of the fact that production of natural gas in the country would be doubling in the coming few months. At the same time, the availability of LNG is also expanding. The Minister also discussed the future line of action to be taken by the Board, so as to ensure that the benefits of numerous developments in the field of petroleum & natural gas actually flow to the common man. He felt that attempts should be made to seek solutions for vexatious issues through a process of consultation.
Deora suggested that the Ministry and the Regulator should jointly create a roadmap to roll out City Gas Distribution Projects to greater number of cities, synchronising with increase in production of natural gas and development of pipeline infrastructure. He clarified that this is a priority for the Government.
The Minister made it clear that the touchstone of these activities would be promptness and efficiency in carrying the fruits of developments in the field of natural gas to the common man. Supply of CNG to transport sector and PNG to households would go a long way to ensure safe, cheap and clean fuel to the users and to reduce Government subsidy.
