Expert committee for drafting housing scheme

Projects

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has formed an independent expert committee to give its comments on the draft guidelines of Rajiv Awas Yojana which aims to make the country slum-free. The eight-member committee will be headed by ex-chairman of HDFC Bank Deepak Parekh.
Learning from the experience of JNNURM, the Ministry is considering a new scheme under which support would be given to state governments who are willing to assign property rights to slum dwellers.
The committee will critically examine the draft to make suggestion regarding the strategy, financial pattern and other features so as to make a practical and implementable instrument of making India slum-free. It will submit its recommendations within one month from the date of its first meeting.
The committee will have other members such as Nasir Munjee, S Sridhar, Professor OP Mathur, Renana Jhabwala, Sheela Patel, Rohtas Goyal and Kumar Gera.
