Exhibitors say bC India wrongly timed and located
The inaugural bC India exhibition, being held between Feb 8-11, 2011 in Mumbai, received some criticism from a number of exhibitors who feel though the show has created a new platform for them, it’s wrongly timed and located. Since another such mega biannual exhibition is due to held later this year, the exhibitors said both the mega events should held in alternative years, not in same year. Also, Mumbai as a location didn’t go well with many who complain it’s not an ideal for such types of mega event which requires huge area for display of big equipments and cranes.
“Firstly, Bauma (bC India) and Excon should be on alternative years. Secondly, Mumbai is not the right location for a Bauma show. The reason being most of these equipments are gigantic in size, we don’t have hangers in India which can accommodate huge machines such as big trucks, cranes, loaders and so on and so forth. Hence, all the equipments have to be outdoor. And this weather, in Mumbai, never suites this kind of show. People are not comfortable whether they are visiting or they are explaining,” said Kamaljeet Nandkeolyar, Director – Military & Off Highway Business, ArvinMeritor.
He said it’s a good show because it gives a platform for users, manufactures, supplies, buyers who come on the same platform. So that way it does a great purpose but place like Bangalore could have been a better choice since the city has huge place available for such kind of show besides weather being kind to mankind. “Also, many of these large construction machinery and component manufacturers are located around Bangalore. This helps in reduction in cost for exhibitors,” he added.
Also, the timing is not right for such show because many of the companies are busy with their financial closing which is next month.
“The financial year closing is just round the corner and you want to finish with all the pending orders and all. So February is not the right time for such event. Since it’s a mega event and all your competitors are participating, you can’t stay away from it. But I wish it was held sometime during October-November last year because another such mega event is due to held later this year,” said I Chandrashekar Rao, Project Research- Analyst & Consultant, NAWA Engineering & Consultants Pvt Ltd.
However, the show received good number of serious visitors and many of the exhibitors said that they managed strike deals during the show. Spread over 88,000 sqm area, the show had 508 exhibitors from over 30 countries.
