Design Forum International was the second winner in this category. The Jury chose them for their Vanijya Bhawan project in New Delhi.
Lying adjacent to the Rajpath, Vanijya Bhawan is an office complex for the Department of Commerce, government of India. Vanijya Bhawan is a modern heritage building that stands out as a monument to India’s rich cultural heritage and technological craftsmanship while providing a state-of-the-art facility for hosting official meetings, conventions, and cultural performances.
The design of Vanijya Bhawan incorporates passive architectural strategies, including the implementation of deeply recessed windows.
a) The windows are carefully positioned to create a gradient of light, allowing for controlled illumination within the building, thus reducing heat gain.
b) By recessing the windows deeply, the entry of direct sunlight is minimised, reducing glare and providing a more comfortable visual environment.
c) This design approach enhances the aesthetic appeal of the building and also ensures optimal daylighting conditions.
