Coal Mining: JSW plans Rs1500 crore push

JSW group has firmed plans to invest approximately Rs1500 crore in its captive coal mining operations in West Bengal. The project is linked to the group’s proposed power cum steel project in the state. The group’s power generation company, JSW Energy will kick start the group’s plans in the state through an 800 MW thermal plant as part of the first phase.
JSW has been allotted steam coal blocks at Ichhapur and Gourangdih in addition to semi-coking coal ones at Purulia and Sitarampur in the state. The group’s vice chairman Sajjan Jindal is also expected to travel to China later this week to scout for technology providers. It had earlier been in talks with mining companies in Ukraine for the same purpose.
