Coal India to commission 19 washeries

The country’s largest coal producer Coal India plans to commission 19 washeries at an estimated investment of Rs 3,000 crore over the next five years. The company plans to start commercial operation of six out of the 19 washeries by March 2013. The company will float global tenders for another eight facilities in the next six months and plans to commission them by 2013-14.
According to a top company official, another five washeries would be added by 2014-15. Of the 6 washeries proposed by March 2013, three will be set up at its subsidiary Bharat Coking Coal Ltd, two at Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd and one at Central Coalfields Ltd. The Navratna PSU also plans to add about 20 washeries in the second phase post-2015.
