Technip Energies, a global engineering and technology company for energy transition, has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to explore opportunities under various domains of energy research. This research collaboration will explore pioneering solutions that will shape a sustainable and low-carbon future not only for India but for the entire world.
The MoU was signed by Davendra Kumar, managing director of Technip Energies India and Prof Manu Santhanam, dean of industrial consultancy and sponsored research at IIT Madras in the presence of Wei Cai, chief technology officer of Technip Energies in a ceremony held at IIT Madras in Chennai.
With this partnership, Technip Energies will pursue its strategic objective of accelerating the development of new technologies to meet the pressing needs of a fast-growing energy market, driven by sustainability goals.
“With Technip Energies’ vision towards achieving net-zero, we believe that the power of collaboration will drive innovation and address the urgent global challenges in the energy sector. Hence, we joined hands with The Energy Consortium at the IIT Madras to develop new technologies in energy segment under collaborative research approach,” said Kumar.
The Energy Consortium is a visionary initiative established by IIT Madras to foster collaboration between industry, academia, and government in accelerating the development of technologies crucial for the transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Dr. Nikhil Tambe, CEO of The Energy Consortium at IIT Madras, emphasised, “The Energy Consortium affiliated faculty are collaboratively advancing research in areas that are of national importance and as broad as achieving round the clock renewables as well as carbon capture and utilization. Alongside our industry founding member Technip Energies, the energy consortium possesses the momentum to advance on an unprecedented effort of coordinated activities in energy grand challenge areas in India.”
Ramasubramanian Arunachalam, assistant vice president for process at Technip Energies, has been appointed to the Industry Advisory Board of The Energy Consortium. This advisory board, comprising representatives from all founding members, will collectively steer ongoing advancements in research, technology, and innovation across key energy challenges.
The Energy Consortium’s primary focus areas include resilient energy systems, energy storage, carbon capture, storage, and utilisation, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and economics. It is an industry-academia-government collaborative effort established with the aim of accelerating the development of technologies that enable the transition toward a low-carbon future.
Technip Energies is the ninth industry founding member of The Energy Consortium, working collectively to drive advances in research, technology, and innovation within the realm of energy. The consortium’s shared goal is to support India’s nationally determined contributions to combat climate change.
The other industry founding members of The Energy Consortium include Shell, Baker Hughes, FLSmidth, Aditya Birla, Cummins, Chevron Tech Ventures, Infosys, and Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL).
