The Chhattisgarh government is scouting for land in the Bastar region to allocate requisite land parcel to investors, even as NMDC Steel Plant (NSP) is poised to start its steel facility in the area.
NSP, which is a disinvested entity of NMDC, is set to commission its three million tpa greenfield steel plant in Bastar district’s Nagarnar, about 350 km from Chhattisgarh’s capital city.
The plant will produce high-quality hot-rolled coils, plates, and sheets using advanced technology. Raw material will be fed to the plant from its two mechanised iron-ore mines located about 100 km from the site in Dantewada district. The steel plant has provided fillip to the private sector to set up auxiliary industries in the region.
In the recent past, several companies had evinced interest in investing in Bastar, and seven had signed agreements with the Chhattisgarh government to take forward the industrial proposals. The state government is obligated to provide land to the industries which have already signed pacts.
Earlier, the state industry department had identified land parcels near Saalepal in the Tokapal development block, but had to withdraw following a strong protest from the villagers. It had planned to allot the land to two different firms engaged in steel, sponge, and pellet manufacturing.
