Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders seals deal for AIP System integration worth Rs 1,990 cr

The AIP technology will enable submarines to operate submerged for extended durations, significantly boosting their operational capability.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) has announced the signing of a Rs 1,990-crore contract with the Ministry of Defence for constructing an air-independent propulsion (AIP) plug and integrating it into conventional submarines. This initiative, leveraging indigenously developed AIP technology by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), aims to enhance submarine endurance by reducing dependence on oxygen-based propulsion systems.

The AIP technology will enable submarines to operate submerged for extended durations, significantly boosting their operational capability. Additionally, the project is expected to generate approximately three lakh man-days of employment, contributing to economic growth.

MDL’s role in developing and integrating AIP systems underscores its commitment to strengthening India’s naval defense capabilities and achieving self-reliance in defense technology. This initiative aligns with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision, emphasizing indigenous innovation and manufacturing to advance India’s maritime defense sector.
