The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) in Mumbai is preparing for a significant expansion that could introduce approximately 1,000 new offices and related infrastructure.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has proposed an increased global floor space index (FSI) of 4.0 for the Bharat Diamond Bourse’s (BDB) location in the Bandra Kurla Complex’s ‘G’ block. This will allow the BDB to add an additional 12 lakh sq-ft of built-up space and accommodate an extra 1,000 diamond offices. The increase in FSI aims to cater to the growing needs of the diamond industry through expanded construction and development.
The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), a sprawling 8.1-hectare complex in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), currently accommodates 2,500 diamond traders, a customs house, banks, and other critical service providers for the gem and jewelry industry. The expansive BDB complex comprises 26 nine-story towers, collectively spanning a constructed area of 20 lakh square feet. Previously, the Floor Space Index (FSI) in BKC was 1.5 for residential and 2.0 for commercial users.
