BEE, EESL host consultative workshop in Ranchi, Jharkhand

The core idea was to promote energy efficiency in the perform achieve and trade (PAT) industries

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statutory body under the Ministry of Power and Energy Efficiency Services (EESL), a joint venture of public sector undertaking under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, hosted a workshop on the demonstration of energy efficiency projects (DEEP) in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

The key aim of the workshop was to encourage the implementation and adoption of innovative energy efficiency technologies across designated consumers under the perform achieve and trade (PAT) scheme. The workshop focused on learnings and case studies of similar projects that have enabled significant impact in carbon mitigation strategies for industrial plants in some parts of the country.

During the consultative workshop on DEEP, key luminaries from BEE, EESL, Jharkhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (JREDA), Steel Authority of India  (SAIL), MECON, and the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), shared insights on the importance of energy efficiency technologies for the business growth of PAT industries in India.

The workshop witnessed some of the key dignitaries such as Ashok Kumar, deputy director general, BEE, Jagdish Arora, ED, CET-SAIL, K K Verma, director, JREDA, R K Jha, CGM, SAIL,  Vikas K. Kulshreshtha, GM -Electricals, ONGC,  Nirvik Banerjee, ED, RDCIS, Girja Shankar, GM, EESL, Anil Kumar Choudhary, CGM and head-operation, EESL, Ajay Raj, AGM, EESL, Pradeep Joshi, senior technical expert, EESL), Animesh Mishra, head of sales and communications, EESL,  and Ranveer Singh, Jharkhand state head – growth and lighting, EESL, among others.

EESL’s Anil Kumar Choudhary said, “At EESL, we are committed to providing universal access to innovative and energy-efficient solutions. Our programmes have made considerable contributions to expanding India’s energy efficiency portfolio. The DEEP initiative will support the growth of PAT industries while enabling significant reductions in their emissions by mainstreaming energy efficiency and unlocking the growth potential of Jharkhand. Scaling up of the technologies pan India and bringing market transformation is what EESL is striving for.”

BEE’s Ashok Kumar said, “Today, we are all aware of the recent climate change warnings and reports released by scientists globally. The findings of the climate report have necessitated industries and leaders to come together to help mitigate the climate crisis. In this regard, we have realized the importance of energy efficiency and innovations to safeguard our future and reduce the emissions caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Through its various programmes and initiatives, EESL has reduced the annual energy consumption of India by 57 billion units, helping the country reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 45.5 million tonnes annually. We are now scaling up the adoption of these initiatives across industries through the DEEP initiative.”

SAIL’s Jagdish Arora said, “We will provide our full support for the large-scale implementation of DEEP projects and achieving the PAT targets across SAIL plants in the country. SAIL would also propagate the benefits of newly identified technologies for smaller subsidiary associate plants. The implementation of these projects is critical not only from the perspective of the environmental benefit but also enhancing the profitability of industries in the region.”

EESL has spearheaded the implementation of energy-efficient projects at scale, through its innovative business and demand aggregation models. DEEP is a collaborative effort of both EESL and BEE, focused on enabling India to meet its climate action goals and accelerate its path to an energy secure future by leveraging the potential energy savings available in the industry space.

EEL’s  Pradeep Joshi in his vote of thanks speech expressed gratitude to all the participants from various industries, accredited energy experts, and other consultants.
