Visaka Industries, a manufacturer of cement roofing sheets, has acquired 20 years of patent rights for ATUM– integrated solar roof division; making it India`s first eco-friendly energy generating roof.
The patent has been granted for the invention titled Eco-Friendly Energy Generating Roof. ATUM has been addressing coal-based power production by providing solutions for sectors like affordable housing, net-zero industries and commercial establishments.
Vamsi Gaddam, joint MD of Visaka Industries, had been working on ATUM — the world’s first solar roof that generates power from 2016 onwards, and filed for patent in March 2017 following which there were several hearings.
ATUM is a simple roof that generates power. It generates 20 to 40 percent more power compared to the traditional solar roofs. ATUM also gives an additional floor space which is not possible with the traditional systems.
Apart from ATUM division, Vnext is actively trying to solve the deforestation and carbon emissions issue, and the textile division has developed sustainable yarns made out of PET bottles, addressing the issue of plastic waste.
