CREDAI has signed an MoU with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to accelerate the push towards the Green Building movement in the country. The MoU, which will also see the two organisations come together and construct green building projects in five cities, was signed at the installation ceremony of the CREDAI Youth Wing and CREDAI Women’s Wing in Hyderabad.

By joining forces, CREDAI & IGBC intend on collaborating to mutually share knowledge and extend industrial support to reinstate the importance of constructing environmentally friendly buildings for sustainable growth of the Indian real estate sector. The partnership will strive to strengthen the green building eco-system in India, which will involve training and awareness programmes for CREDAI members, promotion of green affordable housing and unceasing engagement with CREDAI Youth Wing and CREDAI Women’s Wing to advance the movement, among other such initiatives.

CREDAI national president Satish Magar, said, “As a leading industry body, CREDAI has consistently maintained a stance of supporting environmentally friendly construction practices and methods and this is another huge step towards the sustainable growth of Indian real estate. Our association with IGBC will set the benchmark in construction of green buildings all across India. CREDAI strongly encourages its member developers to adopt newer and sustainable construction techniques to ensure holistic growth for all industry stakeholders.”

Past chairman, CII Western Region & chairman, GreenCo Rating, Pradeep Bhargava, said, "CII has been at the forefront of the green movement in every aspect of conduct of business ranging from buildings, processes, technologies, supply chain , products in all sectors like manufacturing, services, hospitality, health care , education ... across the country. CREDAI is the nodal body driving the most vital infrastructure engine covering all types of constructions. The convergence of these two credible institutions will ensure rapid progress in having sustainable and Green buildings, communities, cities and ultimately a green country."

National chairman, IGBC, V Suresh, said, “Real Estate development contributes immensely to the creation of sustainable built environment. CREDAI is doing a yeomen service to the nation in building habitats of all forms. India has over the last two decades been a leader in the green building movement with over 6.8 billion sq-ft of green footprint covering buildings of all asset classes as well as the built environment like campuses, townships and cities. The contribution of developers and builders in the green journey has been phenomenal."

"It is therefore a happy augury for IGBC to work together with CREDAI for the creation of a sustainable built environment and also create larger awareness. I am confident the MOU with CREDAI will contribute well in India’s quest to be numero uno in the green building movement," added Suresh.
