The 2010 edition of the Green Building Congress – India’s annual flagship event on Green Buildings – will take place at Chennai from October 6-9, 2010
India’s annual flagship event on Green Buildings – the Green Building Congress 2010 will bring together all the leading stakeholders of the global Green Building Movement on to one common platform. It is slated to be held from October 6-9, 2010 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai.
Green Building Congress 2010 will provide an excellent opportunity for architects, green products & equipment manufacturers, building consultants, contractors and corporate project managers to update themselves on the latest trends in Green Building practices across the globe.
Spearheading the Green Building Movement in India is the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a division of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The vision of the Council is to usher in a Green Building Movement and facilitate India’s emerging as one of the world leaders in Green Buildings by 2015.
The Green Building Movement in India has grown steadily over the years. With a modest beginning of 20,000 sq ft of green built-up area in the year 2003, today 644 (as on June 2010) Green Building projects with a built-up area of 412 million sq ft are registered, spread across the country.
Recently the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) had the honour of awarding the prestigious LEED-India NC Gold Rating to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Building in Chennai, which now has the unique distinction of becoming the World’s first Green Legislative Assembly /Senate.
Further, in its efforts to develop ratings for various types of buildings, IGBC has launched Green Rating Systems for Homes, Factory Buildings and SEZs. IGBC will soon launch Rating Systems for Green Cities. Other Ratings under development include the IGBC Green Schools and IGBC Existing Buildings.
Further, to cater to the increasing demand of Green Building Professionals, IGBC has launched the online Indian Green Building Council™ Accredited Professional Examination. The exam is a qualification for professionals to participate in green building projects in India.
One of the key highlights of the event is the Conference on Green Home slated on October 9, 2010. This exclusive conference is designed to cater the green needs of a home, which includes water and energy conservation, enhanced air quality, excellent day lighting, health & wellbeing of the occupants, etc.
Further, the international exhibition on Green Building products and technologies is expected to attract over 7,000 visitors. All the leading Green manufactures/ technology providers will converge at Chennai and display their products and technologies.
