Agreement signed for PCPIR in Gujarat


Steps have been taking for setting up a Petroleum Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) at Dahej in Gujarat. The Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Government of India has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Government of Gujarat for this PCPIR.
The agreemnet is in pursuance of the PCPIR policy of the Government of India, and the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in February 2009.
The Government of Gujarat proposes to set up the PCPIR at Dahej spread over the blocks of Vagra and Bharuch in the district of Bharuch, South Gujarat covering an area of 453 sq km. It will have a processing area of 186 sq km, which is approximately 41.05% of the total area and hence in conformity with the PCPIR policy that states that the minimum processing area for the PCPIR will be about 40% of the total designated area. The balance will be used as Non-Processing area and will include residential, commercial and other social and institutional infrastructure.

Total investment of about Rs50,000 crore is expected in the Gujarat PCPIR. The proposal outlines committed investment of Rs22,930 crore. The total employment generation from the GPCPIR is expected to be 8 lakh persons and the estimated direct employment in the PCPIR will be about 1.9 lakh over a period of time.
