A Fresh Vibe
Tis the season to be jolly – and the mediterranean-style Club Fresh at morjem is the place to be if you’re in goa this month, says Maria Louis.
White is the theme of this fresh new addition to Goa’s club scene, which is ready to rock the party this year-end. Club Fresh Goa, set on the white sands of Morjem in North Goa, made its presence felt with a fashion show by designers Shane & Falguni Peacock last month.
In keeping with the theme, the dress code was white – an unspoken code that continues at this spanking new beachside club designed and promoted by the enterprising Sunil Chawla, who has returned to India after 30 years of creating restaurants, retail and fashion lines around the world. He last lived in Marbella, Spain, for around seven years.
Coincidentally, Club Fresh is an extension of Marbella – a beach boutique resort owned by Jaideep Rajebhosle. The 50-room property has 16 tents (which are dismantled during the monsoons), two villas and one suite. It takes days to put up the tents, but they can be dismantled within hours.
The interior of the tents, with its wooden flooring and canvas walls stretched over plywood, is the epitome of luxury on a beach. A touch of colour can be seen in the verandah outside each tent, where blue beach towels make the cushioned day beds and casual cane seating placed on chattais even more comfortable.
The all-white Club Fresh has a chic ambience with a restaurant serving sushi and Thai food, a massage spa, a Vitamin Centre dispensing fruit and vegetable juices, a DJ booth overlooking the sands and a bar below it – deliberately located at a lower level in deference to the club’s guests.
An art gallery run by Russian artist Elena Starkova sets Club Fresh apart.
Saxophone player Florencio Cruz has been flown in from Nikki Beach Marbella to perform; while Amber Joy from Cirque du Soleil will be organising some extraordinary shows. Plans are afoot to host Bollywood parties, wedding celebrations and other events throughout the season – which in Goa is from October to May.
The USP of this beach club is that it brings together people from around the world: Ireland, India, Italy, Ibiza, Russia, etc. In fact, renowned Spanish architect Angel Taborda was roped in to design the three teepees that will house a full-body massage bed, an internet café and designer club wear.
All in all, this seems to be the perfect place to enjoy a white Christmas if you’re heading to Goa this month.
