Bhupinder Singh, CEO, Bbauma CONEXPO India, talks about what’s in store for exhibitors and visitors to the trade fair in December.

How is the fourth edition of bauma CONEXPO INDIA shaping up? Please share statistics and international participation.
This year we have secured a 30% growth as compared to the last edition. bauma CONEXPO INDIA 2018 is a reflection of the market and has shaped up well. I’d say that the overall market mood is upbeat and reflects a positive trend. We are happy to have country pavilions from Germany, China, Spain and exhibitors from 30 countries. This gives an international flavor and adds variety and innovation to our platform.

Bauma CONEXPO India 2018 looks to be the largest event for bauma CONEXPO brand in scale and size this year. What are the visitor promotion activities undertaken to attract visitors?
Bringing the right mix to the exhibition is the first step and it’s vital we attract delegates, buyers and industry stalwarts. This is our top priority and we have put in efforts to accomplish this, both in terms of quality and numbers.
We are travelling across the country with our bauma CONEXPO India roadshows, reaching out to key buyer segments. We have also visited Sri Lanka, met associations for the construction industry and expect strong delegations.
Our bauma network with its worldwide offices will bring in international visitors to the show with an aim to drive country delegations. Thanks to our representation in countries outside India this is possible.
A new initiative called “buyer seller forum” shall improve the number of focused meetings with predefined objectives. For the first time, we have support from over 30 different national and international associations and over 30 media partners; a special thanks to all media partners for the support and cooperation. It’s a special year for bCI 2018 and with all these multipliers promoting the show, it’s going to be a collective success eventually.

What concurrent conference programmes are going to take place this year at the show?
bauma CONEXPO INDIA encompasses the entire range of construction equipment and building material machines, and visitors can expect to see a full range including components and accessories. In addition, conference programmes are planned to cover various themes and sectors. For the first time, we are organising a conference on “Transportation Infrastructure“ covering road sector, urban transportation and railways. These sectors are currently driving demand for the CE sector and the conference will deliberate on the latest trends and challenges and focus on the way forward. Our Partner association ICEMA is also organising a conference on latest technologies and financing. Currently the renting industry is undergoing a transformation with heavy demand and scope; this topic shall be addressed by, Construction Equipment Rental Association (CERA). Overall we will have more than half a dozen concurrent events aligned with the fair.

Please elaborate on your new initiative ‘buyer seller meets’?
This is a special initiative which we run in all our exhibitions in India. It has been successful and appreciated by key stakeholders. For the first time we are introducing it at bCI 2018 where targeted buyer seller meetings shall be planned “before” the fair and organised “during” the fair to enhance the RoI (return on investment) for exhibitors and RoTI (return on time invested) for the visitors/buyers. In a show as large as bauma CONEXPO INDIA it becomes important to have such a forum to bring visitors and exhibitors together with pre planned meetings. I would like to use your platform to appeal to readers to register themselves and make use of this forum which is offered without any fees.

bauma CONEXPO India recently had an engaging partnership with ICEMA. How is that helping the industry at large and how will it help the CE industry as a whole?
The partnership with ICEMA has been encouraging and the relationship is growing with each edition. ICEMA in its capacity as the largest association for the construction machinery sector in India, acts as a strong link between the industry and government decision makers, and campaigns for growth and development. The construction machinery market in India is experiencing a positive trend, primarily on account of the increase in road construction and infrastructure development. Therefore the partnership is a logical step to promote the transfer of know-how and the development of the infrastructure in India. This will enable us to examine and recognise trends and solutions for the Indian market and address them at the show.
The synergies between two strong partners are therefore being combined for the benefit of exhibitors and visitors. Together, we can continue to strengthen the trade fair as one of the most important platforms for industry stakeholders as well as government in India. ICEMA also gives shape to the government initiatives like skilling in the CE industry through IESC. The collaboration with ICEMA is on global level and are present at bauma cluster shows and in CONEXPO CON/AGG in Las Vegas organised by American Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) show. By the cooperation agreement, the two partners are pursuing the joint objective of promoting topics in the industry through close collaboration and reacting to the needs and demands of the exhibitors and visitors.

How and what measurers have you taken to ensure security, smooth traffic flow and accommodation facilities?
Security and safety is a prime concern. We work closely with the local traffic and police offices and depute private security persons to ensure safety as well as control the traffic for smooth operations. Based on our learnings from last year we will try and minimise any teething issues for the participants. The location of venue is strategic with many hotels in the vicinity along with better connectivity between Gurugram and NCR. How do you see the Indian CE industry evolving with respect to mechanisation, technology, quality control as per global standards?
The equipment standards and features in India match global standards and customers are becoming demanding thus driving innovations in the equipment planned for India. Advanced telematics, IoT, predictive maintenance is available. Like the recent BS IV norms have brought in new emission technologies and it won’t be too long before we see alternate ecofriendly fuels in construction vehicles and earth moving machines. Some of the companies also have their manufacturing facilities in India which cater to the export market, keeping India as a hub.

What kind of impact the exhibitors can expect from the show like bauma CONEXPO India ?
bauma CONEXPO INDIA is a platform to showcase new innovations, launch new products and a way for participating companies to communicate with their customers. Our objective as an exhibition organiser is to ensure and maximise the reach of our exhibitors to their existing as well as new customers. In the process, we see business being discussed and negotiation onsite on various levels, business offers rolled out by the OEM’s during the show and also by the finance companies fostering business transaction onsite. In short, platforms such as ours facilitate and help foster and multiply business during the show. Sometimes the results are instant, sometimes it takes a few months or quarters which looking at the high value stakes is understandable. However our focus is constantly to ensure better RoI and RoTI which eventually results in contributing impetus for the CE industry.
