Otis Elevator Company (India) Ltd has started expansion of its existing elevator factory in Bangalore, India. Once completed in spring 2012, the expanded facility will be three-times the size of the current factory and will include a test tower. The company said the new 27,500 square-meter manufacturing facility will incorporate leading Otis technologies from all over the world. The factory is being built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards.
“Otis India is pleased to further build upon our 100-year history in India while strengthening our manufacturing presence in Bangalore. Our expanded facility will ensure that Otis India is well-positioned to support India’s exponential growth with quality, locally produced elevators, while conserving the country’s valuable resources,” said Laurent Bruyère, Managing Director, Otis India.
With an expanded factory, the company said, it will be able to serve the India elevator market more effectively which is expected to reach 70,000 units over the next three years. Otis India’s Bangalore factory will also supply the company’s growing portfolio of customers in India.
“This ground-breaking marks the beginning of a new phase of Otis’ leadership in India. Since the first Otis elevator was installed in Calcutta in 1892, we have successfully partnered with customers throughout India. Today, we look forward to expanding our local manufacturing expertise while providing more than double the number of job opportunities to the people of Bangalore,” added Bruyère.
