Both the countries will increase technical cooperation in the field of Highway Management and Development.
India and Malaysia have stressed on the need to take further action for technical cooperation in the field of Highway Management and Development.
Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Dr. CP Joshi said that Steering Committee has been appointed from the Indian side, and a meeting of the Steering Committee would be initiated in the near future. “Simultaneously, two technical teams – one regarding Technical Specifications and Standards & Designs of Roads and Bridges; and the other regarding Tolling Technology and Operation – would be visiting Malaysia during April, 2011,” said Dr. Joshi who is on a tour to Malaysia.
Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the Malaysian companies could assist in developing training facilities and programmes for skilled workers in the road construction sector. “Details for forward action in this regard would be discussed in the next meeting of the Steering Committee,” he said, adding that the Government of Malaysia is stressing upon the Malaysian companies to also focus on corporate social responsibility actions while they are working on their business projects in India.
The both the countries had signed the MOU in December, 2010 to cooperate each other in the field of Highway Management and Development.
The Minister of Works, Malaysia along with Business Delegation which included representatives of several road construction companies accompanied the Malaysian delegation. From Indian side, Secretary (Transport), Director General (RD) and Indian High Commissioner to Malaysia attended the meeting.
