Philips Lighting, a leader in the lighting industry in India won the prestigious ‘EMPOWER AWARD 2009’ for manufacturing the most energy efficient Fluorescent Tube Lights. The Empower awards are jointly organized by Urjavaran Foundation, a voluntary non-profit NGO and International Copper Promotion Council (India), to foster efficient use of energy and its conservation. The recognition is conferred upon companies which excel in manufacturing and marketing of star-rated energy efficient products as per the norms laid down by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in India and Ministry of Power.
Philips Lighting India won the ‘Gold Award’ in the Market Impact Category for energy efficiency in the Fluorescent Tubelight (FTL) category while the company’s 40W FTL brand ‘Champion’ was awarded the ‘Star Performer’ honour. The winners were selected by an eminent panel of 9 Jury members headed by Shri Anil Razdan, Former Secretary – Ministry Of Power and Chairman – Urjavaran Foundation.
Selection criteria were based on the nominee's impact, innovation, and leadership in the energy efficiency field.
The award was presented to Shri R. Nandakishore, Senior Director – Consumer Luminaires & Modular Switches - Philips Lighting India by Shri Bharatsinh Solanki, Minister of State – Railways (Former Minister of State – Power), Government of India at a gala ceremony hosted by Urjavaran Foundation and ICPCI in the capital on 28th January 2011.
As the leader in the Indian Lighting industry, Philips is consistently working with industry bodies to drive the responsible switch to energy-efficient solutions and is also associated with BEE’s Bachat Lamp Yojana - the largest carbon credits program approved by the UN. The star performer product, 40W “Champion” by Philips offers its consumers multiple benefits of long life, bright light and energy saving.
