In this interaction, Feroz Mansuri, Director, Fabtech Sterling Building Technologies, tells Niranjan Mudholkar why his firm believes it is the right time to introduce a new building technique in India through the franchise model
How would you analyse the Indian market scenario with regards to the introduction of a new building technique like Plaswall?
India is going through an urbanisation spree and there is a great shortage of millions of housing units, especially in the rural and semi urban areas. Traditional construction techniques have inherent faults like high time factor and high maintenance. This is where Plaswall technology plays a key role as it helps in faster construction and cuts down on maintenance as well. This technology has proven benefits in the construction of houses and apartments, low-rise urban buildings as well as other commercial structures like warehouses, storage facilities and office blocks.
What has been your strategy behind going for the franchisee model?
The strategy behind the franchisee model is to increase the reach in towns, cities and other areas. The idea is to make this technology popular. Primarily, our aim is to sell franchises and provide our partners with all the technological know-how since they will have a better understanding of the regulation and the laws of construction in their respective cities and states.

What kind of franchisee partners are you looking at?
We are looking at franchisee partners who can undertake contracts and share profit margins. We need franchisee partners who bring economy with volumes and upscale the quality and durability of houses built in India with Plaswall - which treats both luxury and affordability at par.
How many franchisees has Fabtech Sterling Building Technologies Private Ltd (FSBT) appointed so far? Please provide the details.
We have appointed a Bangalore based company, Time and Space Group in Karnataka as our first partner. Through this partnership, the Time and Space Group will be further authorized to appoint sub franchisee in Karnataka at will. FSBT will provide technology to produce Plaswalls and a mobile and permanent factory set up which will be located in north Bangalore, near the airport.
Negotiations are in process in Mumbai and other cities as well.
How many franchisees would you be looking to sign in the next two years?
We are very aggressive on having franchisees depending upon the industry demands and inquiries; we are prepared to have as many franchisees as possible.
